North of England welcome a new Chair and Vice Chair

The North of England Brass Band Championships are pleased to announce a New Chair and Vice Chair to the regional Committee.


Phillip Tait, a well-respected soprano cornet player and conductor has stepped into the role, held by regional stalwart, Hugh Stephenson , who has decided to step down as regional Chair, but will remain an integral part of the regional committee and supporter of the regional contest.

Phillip said "I look forward to working with Tony Griffiths, the Regional Secretary, and the rest of the regional committee, continuing the work and professionalism put in place over the last few years.”


Ably assisting Phillip and Tony will be Julie Carmichael in the new role of Vice Chair. Julie currently chairs the Durham County Brass Band Association and brings to the role a wealth of experience .


The appointment of Phillip and Julie show the regional committee’s vision and commitment to the future of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, and the regional qualifying events. A fresh young outlook and balanced approach to contesting demands in our region is essential for our event to remain vibrant and grow in the future


The North of England Brass Band Championships, take place at the Gala Theatre in Durham on the weekend of the 16th and 17th of March 2024. Thirty-nine bands have entered the event this year, as we welcome back, North Lincolnshire band Cleethorpes Band and Cumbrian band Burneside Brass.
